Summary

Picking up where the New York Times bestselling Front Row at the Trump Show left off, this is the explosive look at the aftermath of the election--and the events that followed Donald Trump's leaving the White House--from ABC News' chief Washington correspondent。

Nobody is in a better position to tell the story of the shocking final chapter of the Trump show than Jonathan Karl。 As the reporter who has known Donald Trump longer than any other White House correspondent, Karl told the story of Trump's rise in the New York Times bestseller Front Row at the Trump Show。 Now he tells the story of Trump's downfall, complete with riveting behind-the-scenes accounts of some of the darkest days in the history of the American presidency and packed with original reporting and on-the-record interviews with central figures in this drama who are telling their stories for the first time。

This is a definitive account of what was really going on during the final weeks and months of the Trump presidency and what it means for the future of the Republican Party, by a reporter who was there for it all。 He has been taunted, praised, and vilified by Donald Trump, and now Jonathan Karl finds himself in a singular position to deliver the truth。

A good chronology of Trump's final presidential malfeasance。 It captured the drama of the moment well。 Also it rebutted the big lie with lots of specifics。 It would be a good book for the election crazies to read, but they never will。 I listened to an audio book, rather than reading from a print book。 It was interesting to hear some of the quotes in the speaker's own voice。 A good chronology of Trump's final presidential malfeasance。 It captured the drama of the moment well。 Also it rebutted the big lie with lots of specifics。 It would be a good book for the election crazies to read, but they never will。 I listened to an audio book, rather than reading from a print book。 It was interesting to hear some of the quotes in the speaker's own voice。 。。。more

I don't typically read political analysis but gave this book a shot since it was a gift from Alan。 Of course, it was far too much about the EVIL that is trump, it was nevertheless expertly plotted and offered the occasional hero。 I don't typically read political analysis but gave this book a shot since it was a gift from Alan。 Of course, it was far too much about the EVIL that is trump, it was nevertheless expertly plotted and offered the occasional hero。 。。。more

Enlightening book。 Scary。

A telling tale of Trump's final months in office。 Unfortunately, only the "never Trumpers", will appreciate the damage that he is doing to Americas' democracy。 To his base, it's all, "fake news"。 A sad commentary on a country being destroyed from within。 A telling tale of Trump's final months in office。 Unfortunately, only the "never Trumpers", will appreciate the damage that he is doing to Americas' democracy。 To his base, it's all, "fake news"。 A sad commentary on a country being destroyed from within。 。。。more

A brave portrayal of the Trump presidency in his last year。 You cannot refute the massive amount of lies and distortions that spewed from his group of unwavering supporters。 Luckily, many people along the way did the right thing to uphold our constitution 。

He is a great reporter and a great writer。 A frank, undecorated look at the last months of the trump White House。 The writing is clear and not gossipy or sensational。 Worth reading and I hope this serves as a historical account。

Well written, easy reading - though constant state of raised eyebrow。 How does he get away with so much corruption!

Another fantastic and fabulous read from Jonathan Karl。 I know he's a journalist and wouldn't be one if he wasn't an exemplary writer。 But Karl is exceptional among the exemplary。He doesn't write a dry non-fiction that is loaded with facts, many which we already have heard。 He intersperses each incident with his own experiences at that time。 He isn't overly dramatic, but solidly fact based while writing in an engaging voice。 The last year of the 45th president's term was a horrific one。 It would Another fantastic and fabulous read from Jonathan Karl。 I know he's a journalist and wouldn't be one if he wasn't an exemplary writer。 But Karl is exceptional among the exemplary。He doesn't write a dry non-fiction that is loaded with facts, many which we already have heard。 He intersperses each incident with his own experiences at that time。 He isn't overly dramatic, but solidly fact based while writing in an engaging voice。 The last year of the 45th president's term was a horrific one。 It would have been for the pandemic alone, but instead of making things better as a true leader would, the former president made it worse。 We became a laughing stock and lost so much credibility in the world。 Karl goes through each incident caused or made worse by that man and his enablers。 When Karl talks of the courage of some who stood up to the former president, he does not include himself, but he does -- as a journalist telling the truth and asking the hard questions he certainly put himself on the line。 He ends the book with one last person who played a part in the story of the 45th president -- Chris Liddell。 What a gracious, astute and interesting man who in his own way helped save our democracy。 I enjoyed his first book in this series, The Front Row at the Trump Show。 This one is even better。 While the former president is no longer in office, he is sadly far from gone and continues to disrupt and challenge our democracy。 If anyone were to write the aftermath of the debacle of the 45th president is will be Jonathan Karl。 。。。more

Very good reading from the author of "Front Row at the Trump Show", which I also read。Jonathan Karl was right there in the White House press room and had access to Donald Trump and many others。 Jonathan is a great journalist and told it like it was。 He didn't pull any punches。When Trump asked Jonathan Karl about how Mike Pence handled the electoral college votes on January 6: "How can you --if you know a vote is fraudulent, how can you pass a fraudulent vote to Congress? How can you you do it?", Very good reading from the author of "Front Row at the Trump Show", which I also read。Jonathan Karl was right there in the White House press room and had access to Donald Trump and many others。 Jonathan is a great journalist and told it like it was。 He didn't pull any punches。When Trump asked Jonathan Karl about how Mike Pence handled the electoral college votes on January 6: "How can you --if you know a vote is fraudulent, how can you pass a fraudulent vote to Congress? I won't spend a lot of time or effort on a review。 I am not familiar with the author who is apparently a respected journalist but I would say his sources seemed credible and he seemed to have access to those closest to the 45th president of the US。The phenomenon of this man and those who surrounded, supported, and tried to mitigate his worst words and actions is terrifying to me。 His influence and potential to permanently and irrevocably destroy the US democracy continues to fester。45 has made t I won't spend a lot of time or effort on a review。 I am not familiar with the author who is apparently a respected journalist but I would say his sources seemed credible and he seemed to have access to those closest to the 45th president of the US。The phenomenon of this man and those who surrounded, supported, and tried to mitigate his worst words and actions is terrifying to me。 His influence and potential to permanently and irrevocably destroy the US democracy continues to fester。45 has made the worst of American culture routine and deadly in a significant portion of the population。 The Republican party has become the National Socialist German Workers' Party of today in the United States。 Much will have to change in the upcoming generations of US citizens。 。。。more

Scary bookHaving lived through it, reading about it and the intentional actions of President Trump makes this a scary book。 We’ll researched and highly recommended。

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED。 Brilliantly written chronicle of the last, dramatic days of the Donald Trump presidency。 Some of the stories and anecdotes regarding the lengths Trump went to in order to steal the election are honestly jaw-dropping。

This compelling book was both well researched and well written。 I listened to the audiobook which was read by the author。 I liked that various sound bites from the news were included。 Karl's experience as a journalist and a broadcaster elevates the book。 This compelling book was both well researched and well written。 I listened to the audiobook which was read by the author。 I liked that various sound bites from the news were included。 Karl's experience as a journalist and a broadcaster elevates the book。 。。。more

Fascinating BookThis book needs to be read by all Americans, regardless of whether they agree with Mr。 Trump 's substantive policies or not。 That is because this book is not about his policies; it is about his attempts to retain power even after it had become obvious to all reasonable people that he had lost the election。 Prior to Mr。 Trump, no president had ever undertaken such efforts or, more importantly, even thought about doing so。 The fact that Mr。 Trump not only conceived it to be a possi Fascinating BookThis book needs to be read by all Americans, regardless of whether they agree with Mr。 Trump 's substantive policies or not。 That is because this book is not about his policies; it is about his attempts to retain power even after it had become obvious to all reasonable people that he had lost the election。 Prior to Mr。 Trump, no president had ever undertaken such efforts or, more importantly, even thought about doing so。 The fact that Mr。 Trump not only conceived it to be a possibility, but did everything he could to bring it about should shock and frighten every American。 Mr。 Trump needs to be consigned to political oblivion and never be given an opportunity to try again what he so fortunately failed to do with regard to the 2020 election。 There are plenty of other politicians who believe in the same substantive policies, and there is no need to allow Mr。 Trump anywhere near any elective office。 Support the policies if you will, but not the man。 。。。more

Before the fallIf the Republic does fall to authoritarian rule, Betrayal will provide the road map of the demise。 Probably the best, most thorough reporting on the machinations of the coup attempt itself, the scariest part is how Karl shows it came down to just a handful of unlikely heroes who prevented the coup's success。 For now。 Before the fallIf the Republic does fall to authoritarian rule, Betrayal will provide the road map of the demise。 Probably the best, most thorough reporting on the machinations of the coup attempt itself, the scariest part is how Karl shows it came down to just a handful of unlikely heroes who prevented the coup's success。 For now。 。。。more

This is probably in my top 3 books of all-time。 It really is incredeible and his reporting is thorough and shocking。 I didn't believe I would learn anything new by reading this but I just wanted to get a refresher on the day and the days leading up to Jan。 6th。 Well I couldn't have been more wrong。 There are more than several times in the book that it was my first time hearing, and some rather shocking stuff。 You can tell his sources are legit by the way he tell it and so many of them going on t This is probably in my top 3 books of all-time。 It really is incredeible and his reporting is thorough and shocking。 I didn't believe I would learn anything new by reading this but I just wanted to get a refresher on the day and the days leading up to Jan。 6th。 Well I couldn't have been more wrong。 There are more than several times in the book that it was my first time hearing, and some rather shocking stuff。 You can tell his sources are legit by the way he tell it and so many of them going on the record。 I didn't read the first book, Front Row At The Trump Show even though I wanted to。 But now I'm going to go back and read it because it would be a good way to remember all of that foolishness, cause there was so much of it。 J。 Karl is an amazing writer and journalist。 Trump told him he "didn't think he was going to make it" but I think he's way past that。 。。。more

Reading these accounts of Trump’s final year in office is interesting as a first draft of history, tiresome to relive as a witness to it and maddening that a man who is so clearly delusional and authoritarian still has a base of support。 Like many others, the most sensational bits from this book were widely reported before its publication。 Much more opinionated than some of the other works, Karl is harshly critical (and rightly so) of Trump, his enablers and the rhetoric that continues to bring Reading these accounts of Trump’s final year in office is interesting as a first draft of history, tiresome to relive as a witness to it and maddening that a man who is so clearly delusional and authoritarian still has a base of support。 Like many others, the most sensational bits from this book were widely reported before its publication。 Much more opinionated than some of the other works, Karl is harshly critical (and rightly so) of Trump, his enablers and the rhetoric that continues to bring the US to the brink of democratic collapse。 But as for shocking new revelations?
